Consult an expert when the decision has legal, medical, financial, safety, or other significant consequences; when authoritative sources conflict; or when you cannot verify a critical claim. AI can help you prepare better questions and organize the evidence you have. It should not be the final authority for a decision whose risks you cannot evaluate yourself.
AI is useful for learning vocabulary, mapping options, and identifying which documents or measurements matter. It becomes a poor substitute for expert judgment when the answer depends on professional obligations, a specific person's circumstances, or an irreversible choice. Repeatedly asking the model until its answer sounds settled does not resolve those limits.
Bring the expert your current understanding, the relevant source material, the assumptions AI made, and the exact decision you need to make. That preparation makes the conversation more productive. It also lets you use AI for learning while keeping responsibility for the decision with someone qualified to evaluate it.
